The most important new feature on the Marucci CAT 9 drop 5 is the all new AZR alloy. The AZR alloy is constructed using a three stage thermal treatment process. The three stage process impacts the performance of the bat because it creates three different alloy thicknesses as you move across the barrel. The multi variable wall design creates an expanded sweet spot because the thinner walls are more forgiving after off centered contact. With any one piece alloy bat, you want the thinnest walls possible to create the strongest trampoline effect after contact without sacrificing durability. The new multi-layer wall design gives the benefits of a high performance sweet spot while maintaining the strength and durability of the barrel.
The Marucci CAT 9 also comes with a new and improved 2nd generation AV2 anti vibration knob. The AV2 knob provides two important functions for the overall performance and feel of the CAT 9 drop 5. First, it acts as a counterweight to ensure the CAT 9 is one of the most balanced drop 5 bats in the industry. This feature will allow for an easier transition for players who are swinging lighter drop 8 or drop 10 bats. The balanced design of the CAT 9 helps increase bat speed and creates greater control through the zone. The balanced swing weight of the barrel allows for players to easier adjust to faster pitch velocities and makes it much easier to adjust to off speed and breaking balls. The second benefit of the new AV2 knob is that it acts as a dampening system for a better feel and less negative feedback when you don’t make contact directly on the sweet spot.
